Dear Eastlake Residents:
The Eastlake Historical Society is now going into our second year. We have been working to get things in order in our two great rooms in Eastlake City Hall.
Jackie has been busy with her interviews and articles. Joyce Bates has been working on the history of Violet Crest, the Albacht Mansion, which once served as the City Hall.
Mr. Robert Turner will show his extensive slide presentation of Eastlake at Eastlake Library on Monday, February 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. John Olwert was responsible for inviting Mr. Turner at previous presentations at the Eastlake Senior Center.
Marie Tomko and Caryn Mueller tried to find some history on the old Gold Mine bar on Lakeshore. Instead they found the history of the beginning of Eastlake. We also have started to frame and hang some of the old pictures that were found at City Hall such as The Harkness Estate and the previous mayors of Eastlake.
Mrs. Donna Bunsey has been framing and hanging many pictures of her family and documenting the history of her home on Wicklow Drive.
Two large scrapbooks that were put together by Mrs. Doris Becker covering her husbands’ time as mayor have been donated to the Society, as well as other memorabilia of that time.
We have joined in partnership with the Willoughby Historical Society and the Willoughby Eastlake Library System. We’ve also joined the Historic Lake County Alliance, a group of other historical societies in Lake County. So we will be keeping ourselves aware of the happenings in Lake County.
The Eastlake Historical will have some interesting projects coming up in the new year—we’ll keep them posted on this web site. Send us old pictures with an interesting story about Eastlake; we may use them in a book about Eastlake. Let Lois at City Hall know. Again, if you are or know of someone who is 80 years old or older who has lived in Eastlake for 50 years or more and are interested in having Jackie interview you for a profile, contact Lois.
If you have any questions or would like to visit, we meet at City Hall on the third Monday at 7 p.m.
